7Seven Funny Pictures Books You Probably Have Never Heard of But Should Have.

So summer is in full swing, which means kids are not only reading books on their schools summer reading lists, but are also reading books as part of the local library, or bookstore’s programs.

Here are 7seven funny picture books that are not well known, but in my opinion should be.

Randy Riley’s Really Big Hit by Chris Van Dusen– This book is about Randy Riley who is really good at science, but really bad at baseball.  When Randy sees a fireball heading to earth from space, he decides he needs to take action.  This book is rhythmical and beautifully illustrated.

Hipposptoamus by Jeanne Willis and Tory Ross– This book is about a Hippo who finds a bright red spot on her bottom.  She seeks the help of other animals, but no one can tell her what the spot is, until a little boy sees it and we discover its unexpected origin.

Crankee Doodle by Tom Angleberger– This story gives us a fun look at the song Yankee Doodle with a man and his helpful horse.  At the end of the story the horse writes a letter giving the reader a real lesson with some humor on the history of the song.

I Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman Orloff and David Catrow– This book follows a little boy as he corresponds with his mother through letters, asking for a Iguana.  The story is told through the letters and the fun illustrations.

Henry & the Crazed Chicken Pirates by Carolyn Crimi and John Manders–  This book is about Henry one of the Buccaneer Bunnies he loved to read, but one day a letter in a bottle washed ashore warning of the Chicken Pirates.  Henry was worried so he began studying and making a plan to defend their island.  The rest of the Buccaneer Bunnies thought he was wasting his time, until the Chicken Pirates appear.

Edwina the Emu by Sheena Knowles and Rod Clement–  This book about a soon to be mom Edwina deciding to get a job while her husband Edmund sits on the nest.  Edwina tries everything form Ballerina to Waitress but nothing seems to fit her talents.

Aliens in Underpants Save the World by Claire Freedom and Ben Cort– This book is about a group of Aliens who fear that Earth is going to be destroyed.  These Aliens love underpants from Earth and work together to save the planet.  This is a fun story, it has a rhythmical flow and is sure to make kids giggle.

If you have read any of these I hope you enjoyed them as much as I have, and if you haven’t read them then you need to!
